Night Bible School

March 3rd-27th , 2009

Uploaded: 23 March 2009

With us coming to PNG for the full month of March, we felt that it was a good opportunity to run a series of Night Classes to train and educate pastors and leaders in some important topics. The Grations had conducted a first year Bible School course in 2006, but those students are still waiting to complete their second year. We felt it was vital to give some training input for the interim period before the Second Year Students return in 2010 when the Grations return. Also, we wanted to target those pastors who work a secular job so they too could be blessed with some input. That meant it had to be a Night Course.

We attempted to begin the classes on the week of March 3rd, but because of Bro Carver (Senior & Junior) being stranded in Chimbu because of a landslide (read full story here), we lost a week, which was a big disappointment to us and the students.

We began the week after (March 10th), and to our pleasant surprise, the response was excellent. We found ourselves short of supplies because students just kept rolling up to enrol! We are teaching three nights a week, 6:00-9:00pm, and the students are loving it. We have a total of 66 students attending, which is an excellent response. The three of us (Richard, Margaret and Richard Jnr) are teaching various subjects targeted to ministry, family and leadership.

We were initially worried about safety concerns for those ladies returning home after 9:00pm, but a few men in the church own minivans, and they have volunteered at their own expense to drive each student to their very door! They wanted to do this so the classes could go longer and so we could fit three subjects in to each night.

The course is only a month long, but we are thinking of beginning a second part for the same students a little later in the year. It is showing us once again how important and needful Bible School is, and how hungry the people are for such courses.
